From Vienna to Sarajevo door to door, with about 8h 50m behind the wheel. East on the A4 into Hungary, past Győr and around Budapest, south on the M6 to Croatia, down the A5 to the Sava and across at Svilaj into Bosnia and Herzegovina — collected at your Vienna hotel or at Vienna Airport.
Drive from Vienna to Sarajevo in about 8h 50m, with three borders and your breaks on top. Private transfer priced on request per vehicle, door-to-door — from a Vienna hotel, an address or Vienna Airport to your hotel or address in Sarajevo, or to Sarajevo Airport.
Collection from your hotel or address in Vienna, or from Vienna Airport (VIE) at Schwechat. The route leaves the city eastwards on the A4 towards the Hungarian border.
The A4 hands over to the Hungarian M1 at a Schengen-internal crossing. Police checks or temporary border controls may occur, so every passenger keeps a passport or national ID card within reach.
The first Hungarian city on the way, right next to the motorway — an easy coffee stop early in the day.
The route swings around Budapest on the M0 before turning south. If you want lunch by the Danube, we drive into the centre and rejoin the M6 afterwards.
South of Mohács the M6 meets the Croatian A5. This crossing is Schengen-internal too; police checks or temporary border controls may occur.
The A5 passes east of Osijek on its way to the Sava. A break in the city is the last good stop before the external border into Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Leaving Croatia you leave the Schengen area. The Svilaj bridge over the Sava is an EU external border with passport control on both sides — exit control on the Croatian side, entry control on the Bosnian side — and non-EU travellers may be registered under the EU Entry/Exit System on exit. Allow some flexibility in journey time.
After the Doboj area, Maglaj and Žepče, the A1 passes Zenica on the final stretch — a short last break before Sarajevo if you need one.
Drop-off at your hotel or address in Sarajevo, or at Sarajevo Airport (SJJ), about 8 km from the centre, if you are flying on.
Per vehicle, not per person. Every quote includes tolls, fuel, the cross-border route, assistance with loading and unloading luggage, and child seats available on request.

Vienna Airport (VIE) at Schwechat lies south-east of the city, about 20 km from the centre. From the airport straight to Sarajevo is roughly 726 km and 8h 40m of driving, so there is no need to go into Vienna first — give us your flight number in the request. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting.
Heading back north? Sarajevo to Vienna crosses the same three borders in the opposite order.
Sarajevo → Vienna →Vienna to Sarajevo is about 740 km by road, through Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The A4 leaves Vienna for the Hungarian border at Nickelsdorf/Hegyeshalom; the M1 continues past Győr and Tatabánya to the M0 ring around Budapest, and the M6 runs south past Dunaújváros and Paks to the Croatian border near Beli Manastir. The Croatian A5 then passes Osijek and Đakovo on the way to the Sava, which you cross into Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Svilaj bridge; from there the road leads through the Doboj area, Maglaj and Žepče to the A1 and past Zenica into Sarajevo. The route may also run via Slovenia and Croatia instead, through Graz and Zagreb. Plan on about 8h 50m of driving, plus the borders and any breaks.
No train goes all the way: there is no rail connection across the border from Croatia into Bosnia and Herzegovina, so Sarajevo cannot be reached by train from Vienna. Long-distance coach journeys operate on the route; look at the current timetable before you rely on one. With a private transfer you leave your Vienna hotel or the airport at a time you choose and arrive at your door in Sarajevo, with your luggage in the car the whole way.
Austria, Hungary and Croatia are all in the Schengen area, so the first two crossings are internal; police checks or temporary border controls may occur at either. The third, at the Svilaj bridge into Bosnia and Herzegovina, is an EU external border with passport control on both sides. Every passenger carries a valid passport (or an ID card where the nationality allows it), and non-EU travellers may be registered under the EU Entry/Exit System when leaving the Schengen area. Allow some flexibility in journey time.
We collect from hotels and addresses anywhere in Vienna, with 15 minutes of free waiting, and from Vienna Airport (VIE). In Sarajevo we drop off at your hotel or address, or at Sarajevo Airport (SJJ), roughly 738 km from Vienna, if you have a flight onwards.
