Getting around from Mostar

Mostar sits at the crossroads of three countries — Croatia to the west, Montenegro to the southeast, and deeper Bosnia to the north. This central position makes it an ideal transfer hub, but public transport doesn't reflect the geography. Buses to Dubrovnik run twice daily and skip the best stops. There's one daily bus to Sarajevo. Montenegro connections are almost non-existent.

Most visitors arrive in Mostar as a day-trip stop between Dubrovnik and Sarajevo, which is fine but barely scratches the surface. Herzegovina — the wider region around Mostar — has Kravica Waterfalls, the Počitelj fortress village, Blagaj's Dervish monastery, family wineries in Čitluk, and the ancient Radimlja tombstones. None of these are accessible by public transport.

Our transfers from Mostar connect to every major destination on the Dalmatian coast and across Bosnia. The most popular route is Mostar to Dubrovnik with stops, but we also cover Split, Sarajevo, Kotor, and long-distance routes to Zagreb and Belgrade. Every cross-border route includes border assistance — your driver handles everything.

Seasonal tips

Jun–Aug: Mostar gets hot — 35–40°C is normal. Morning transfers are more comfortable. Kravica Waterfalls are at their best for swimming. The Old Bridge divers perform daily.
Apr–May, Sep–Oct: Ideal. Herzegovina vineyards are harvesting in September/October. Mild weather makes multi-stop transfers through the countryside pleasant.
Nov–Mar: Low season. Mostar is quiet but atmospheric. Some attractions (Kravica swimming, outdoor restaurants) close for winter. Transfers to the coast still run year-round.
Mostar Airport: Tiny and seasonal (mainly summer charters). Most visitors arrive via Dubrovnik, Split, or Sarajevo airports and transfer to Mostar by road.

Common Questions

Transfers from Mostar

Where do you pick me up in Mostar?

+

Anywhere in the Mostar area. The Old Town lanes are pedestrian-only, so for Old Town stays we meet at the nearest road. Hotels on the Bulevar and west bank are door-to-door.

Does Mostar have an airport?

+

Mostar has a small airport but with very limited flights. Most travellers arrive from Split (SPU), Dubrovnik (DBV), or Sarajevo (SJJ) airports. We connect all three.

How many borders for Mostar to Dubrovnik?

+

One border crossing (Bosnia to Croatia) near the coast. Driver handles all documents. Takes 5–15 minutes.

Can I visit Kravica Falls on the way to Dubrovnik?

+

Yes—Kravica is right on the Mostar–Dubrovnik route. A 30–45 minute stop for a swim or photos. One of the most popular add-ons.

Are prices per vehicle?

+

Yes. Sedans fit 1–3 passengers; minivans fit 4–8. Split between your group for excellent per-person value.

What should I see in Mostar?

+

The Stari Most (Old Bridge) and the bridge divers, the Ottoman bazaar, Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque for views, and a Bosnian coffee by the river. Allow at least half a day.

Why private?

Why a private transfer from Mostar?

Mostar's public transport is the weakest link in any Balkan itinerary. The bus to Dubrovnik runs twice daily and takes 4+ hours with a meal stop and a border queue you sit in. The Sarajevo train is famously scenic but only runs once a day and takes 2.5 hours; the bus is faster. There is no train connecting Mostar to Croatia or Montenegro at all.

Renting a car works on paper, but the cross-border insurance addendum that Croatian rental companies require for Bosnia and Montenegro typically costs €40-€80 extra, and parking in Mostar's old town is illegal in 2026 (residents-only zones around Stari Most). Most of our customers who originally planned to rent end up with a private transfer once they price the addendums and the parking.

A private transfer for two people is comparable per-person to bus + cab + waiting time, and for three or four travellers it's typically cheaper per person while saving 1-2 hours each leg.

Booking timing

Best time to book Mostar transfers

Peak summer (Jun-Aug): book 7-14 days ahead. Cruise day-trippers from Dubrovnik fill up Saturday and Sunday slots fast, and Karasovići border queues at midday push us toward early-morning departures (08:00 from Mostar to Dubrovnik) to keep the trip on schedule.

Shoulder season (May, Sep, Oct): 2-3 days ahead is comfortable. Pricing is the same year-round — we don't surge for high season — but availability does tighten.

Off-season (Nov-Apr): 24-48 hours ahead is fine. The Stari Most area is genuinely quiet and the drive to Dubrovnik or Sarajevo is faster (no border queues).

Local knowledge

What our drivers know about Mostar pickups

The Stari Most zone (the streets around the bridge — Mala Tepa, Kujundžiluk, Onešćukova) is closed to non-resident vehicles in 2026. If you're staying at Hotel Muslibegović House, Pansion Kriva Ćuprija, Pansion Villa Anri or any pension on the eastern bank near the bridge, our driver picks you up at the nearest legal stopping point (Bišćevića ulica or the Lučki Most car park) — usually a 2-3 minute walk from your accommodation.

For the modern hotels on the western bank (Hotel City, Hotel Bevanda, Hotel Eden) we pick up at the door — the streets there allow stopping for luggage. We coordinate the exact spot via WhatsApp 24 hours before your transfer.

Mostar Airport (OMO) pickups: the airport is 6 km south of the city. Limited international flights mean drivers know each arrival schedule by name — we'll be at the meet-and-greet point with a sign.
