About the Mostar to Zadar transfer

Mostar to Zadar is Herzegovina’s direct link to northern Dalmatia — 340 km west across the border and up the A1 motorway. About 4h 20m direct, one border at Doljani / Metković. Most bookings are one-way continuing a Balkan itinerary with Zadar as the northern Dalmatian anchor.

The route itself

Your driver leaves Mostar south to the Croatian border at Metković, then picks up the A1 motorway at Ploče. The A1 runs north past Makarska, Split, and šibenik. You can take the scenic old coast road through Makarska Riviera (adds 30 min) or stay on motorway for speed. Final 60 km into Zadar has coastal views of the Kornati archipelago offshore.

Optional stops along the way

Split for Diocletian’s Palace (1-hour stretch break, 3 hours into the route). šibenik for the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St James (30 min). Krka National Park at Skradin (90-minute to 3-hour detour off the motorway) — Skradinski Buk waterfalls, boat trips, swimming possible June–September. Krka is arguably Croatia’s second-best national park after Plitvice.

Arrival in Zadar

Zadar’s peninsula Old Town has 3,000 years of history — Roman forum, 9th-century St Donatus church, City Walls (UNESCO tentative list), 5 Wells Square. Modern additions by Nikola Bašić include the Sea Organ (hollow-pipe sculpture played by waves, Alfred Hitchcock famously called the Zadar sunset “the most beautiful in the world”) and Greeting to the Sun (solar disc). Our driver drops at any address or Zadar Airport (ZAD). For onward: Plitvice Lakes 130 km east, Paklenica National Park 50 km north, Kornati archipelago boat trips from Zadar harbour.
