A stunning 16th-century Dervish monastery (tekke) built into a cliff face at the source of the Buna river. Crystal-clear water emerges from a cave beneath towering limestone cliffs. One of the most photogenic spots in all of Bosnia.
Blagaj is one of Bosnia & Herzegovina's most striking sights — a white 16th-century Dervish monastery built directly into a 200-metre cliff face above the point where the Buna river emerges from underground as a fully-formed turquoise spring. From Mostar it's just a 12 km drive south through the Buna village along paved local roads. Door-to-door from a Mostar hotel to the Blagaj parking is about 15 minutes one way.
Most of our guests do this as a half-day round trip from Mostar — about 3 to 4 hours total. That covers pickup, the short drive each way, and 2 hours at Blagaj for the tekija visit, the riverside walk, the boat ride into the Buna cave, and lunch at one of the trout restaurants with the monastery view. If you want to make a fuller day, we can add Počitelj on the way (the medieval Ottoman fortress village 25 minutes south) — that turns it into a 5-hour southern Herzegovina half-day.
For everything about Blagaj itself — Dervish history, what's inside the tekija, dress code, the boat into the cave, where to eat — see our detailed Blagaj Tekija visitor guide. This page covers the transfer logistics: route, pricing, alternatives, and how to plan the day from Mostar.
The 12 km route runs south from Mostar on the local road through Buna village. The drive is short, paved throughout, and runs along the lower Neretva valley with limestone hills on both sides. There are no border crossings — both Mostar and Blagaj are in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
If you're combining with Počitelj, we loop south after Blagaj on the M17 highway (25 minutes drive) and return to Mostar via the same M17. If we add Kravica too, the Kravica detour adds another 25 km west into the karst country before returning. All combinations are paved roads with no border issues.
There's a small free parking area at the foot of the village where the riverside path begins. From there it's a 5-minute walk along the Buna to the tekija itself — accessible for most visitors but with 5–6 stone steps.
Blagaj alone is a short half-day. With drive time and 2 hours at the tekija and river, you're back in Mostar in 3–4 hours. Common upgrades:
All combinations are private transfers — pricing is per vehicle, not per person, driver waits at each stop. Tell us what you want to see when you book and we'll quote a multi-stop price.
