From the lagoon to the Istrian coast by private car: east along the head of the Adriatic to Trieste, through a short stretch of Slovenia and south across Istria to Rovinj — from Piazzale Roma, a Mestre hotel, Marco Polo Airport or your cruise berth, in about three hours and twenty-five minutes.
Drive from Venice to Rovinj in about 3h 25m. Private transfer priced on request per vehicle — tell us where we meet you (Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto, a Mestre address, Marco Polo Airport or the cruise berth) and whether you would like a break in Trieste, Koper or Piran on the way.
No car can reach a hotel in the historic centre, which is pedestrian-only. The road journey begins at Piazzale Roma, the last point open to vehicles, or at Tronchetto next to it; from a hotel in the centre, reaching Piazzale Roma is your part of the trip. Mestre hotels on the mainland are collected at the door.
The A4 runs east across the Veneto and Friuli plain to Trieste. A break in the city centre adds little driving time; Miramare Castle, on the coast just before the city, means taking the shore road instead of the motorway.
Just south of Trieste the road enters Slovenia. It is a Schengen-internal crossing, but police checks or temporary border controls may occur, so every passenger should keep a passport or national ID card at hand.
The short Slovenian stretch passes Koper, so its old town is an easy coffee stop. Piran, out on its own peninsula, is a longer detour and the more striking of the two.
The second Schengen-internal crossing, into Croatian Istria. Police checks or temporary border controls may occur here too, so allow some flexibility in journey time.
Down the Istrian motorway to Kanfanar and west to the coast. Hotels outside the old town we reach at the door; the old town is car-free, so for addresses inside the walls we stop at its edge, at Valdibora or Porton Biondi.
Per vehicle, not per person. Every quote includes tolls, fuel, the cross-border route, assistance with loading and unloading luggage, and child seats available on request.

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is on the mainland side of the lagoon, so there is no need to go into Venice first. From the airport to Rovinj is about 256 km and roughly 3h 15m — mention the airport pickup and your flight number in your request. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting.
Many trips to Rovinj end at Pula Airport, about 40 km away. We run Pula Airport to Rovinj transfers, and from Rovinj we also drive north to Trieste.
Heading back to the lagoon? Rovinj to Venice has its own page, with drop-offs at Piazzale Roma, Mestre, the airport or your ship.
Rovinj → Venice →Venice to Rovinj is about 267 km by road, and three countries. From Piazzale Roma the route joins the A57 round Mestre and the A4 east to Trieste, enters Slovenia just south of the city, passes Koper, crosses into Croatia and follows the Istrian motorway south to Kanfanar before turning west to Rovinj. Croatia and Italy share no land border, so every road route between them crosses Slovenia. Allow about 3h 25m without stops.
Rovinj has no railway, so there is no train all the way: rail from Venice ends in Trieste and the journey continues by bus. FlixBus runs direct coaches from Venice, with stops including Mestre station, Tronchetto and Piazzale Roma, to Rovinj bus station; check the current timetable before travelling. A private transfer is the one-vehicle option — collected at Piazzale Roma, Marco Polo Airport or your ship, set down at your Rovinj hotel or the edge of the old town, with a stop in Trieste, Koper or Piran if you want one.
The route crosses Italy–Slovenia and then Slovenia–Croatia. All three countries are in the Schengen area, so these are internal borders, but police checks or temporary border controls may occur at either one. Every passenger should keep a valid passport or national ID card within reach, and the journey time can vary with traffic and checks.
Venice’s historic centre is pedestrian-only, so we meet you at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto (linked to Piazzale Roma by the People Mover), at a hotel or address in Mestre, at Marco Polo Airport (VCE) or at your cruise berth. Rovinj’s old town is car-free all year: for hotels and apartments inside it we stop at its edge — Valdibora is directly outside the walls, Porton Biondi is the other side — and hotels elsewhere in Rovinj we reach at the door.

Two: Italy–Slovenia and Slovenia–Croatia. Both are Schengen-internal, but police checks or temporary border controls may occur. Every passenger should carry a valid passport or national ID card.
