From the Adriatic waterfront to the Slovenian capital in about an hour and a quarter. Up onto the Karst plateau, across the Italian–Slovenian border and along the A1 past Postojna — a private car from your hotel, cruise berth or Trieste Airport to your door in Ljubljana.
Drive from Trieste to Ljubljana in about 1h 15m. Private transfer priced on request per vehicle, door-to-door — tell us your pickup (hotel, cruise terminal or Trieste Airport) and any stop you would like on the way.
Pickup anywhere in Trieste, including the Stazione Marittima cruise terminal on Molo dei Bersaglieri. The road climbs out of the city to Opicina on the Karst plateau.
A Schengen-internal crossing onto the Slovenian A3. Temporary checks can be in place on this border, so keep a passport or national ID card at hand; travel time can vary.
Postojna Cave sits right beside the A1 motorway. Add time for the cave tour itself; Predjama Castle nearby turns it into a longer stop.
Drop-off at your hotel or address. The old town centre is a pedestrian zone, so for hotels inside it we stop at the nearest point open to cars; free Kavalir electric carts run inside the zone during the day.
Per vehicle, not per person. Every quote includes tolls, fuel, the cross-border route, assistance with loading and unloading luggage, and child seats available on request.

Trieste Airport (TRS) is at Ronchi dei Legionari, about 40 minutes from the city. From the airport to Ljubljana is roughly 124 km and 1h 30m, so there is no need to go into Trieste first — mention the airport pickup in your request. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting.
From Ljubljana we also run transfers to Lake Bled, Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle and on to Zagreb.
Travelling the other way? Ljubljana to Trieste runs the same road in reverse.
Ljubljana → Trieste →Trieste and Ljubljana are less than 100 km apart, but they sit on opposite sides of the Karst plateau and a national border. By car the route climbs out of Trieste to Opicina, crosses into Slovenia at Fernetti/Fernetiči, joins the A3 and then the A1 motorway, and runs past Postojna to Ljubljana. Allow about an hour and a quarter without stops.
There is no direct train between the two cities: rail journeys change at Villa Opicina and take around three hours, and rail connections are limited, so check the current timetable before travelling. FlixBus coaches run direct between Trieste bus station and Ljubljana bus station. A private transfer is the door-to-door option — useful with luggage, straight from the cruise terminal or Trieste Airport, or when you want to see Postojna or Škocjan on the way.
Italy and Slovenia are both in the Schengen area, so this is an internal border, but police checks or temporary border controls may occur when you cross. Every passenger should keep a passport or national ID card within reach; journey times can vary with traffic and checks.
We pick up from hotels and addresses in Trieste, from the Stazione Marittima cruise terminal and from Trieste Airport (TRS). In Ljubljana we drop off at your hotel or address; the old town is a pedestrian zone, so for hotels inside it we stop at the closest point a car may reach.
