The route passes Koper on the Slovenian coast, so a coffee in its old town costs very little time. Piran, on its own peninsula further west, is a longer detour but the more striking stop.
The second crossing, into Croatian Istria. It is also Schengen-internal, and temporary checks can be in place here too; travel time can vary.
South through Istria on the A9 and into Rovinj. Hotels outside the old town we reach directly; the old town itself is car-free, so for addresses inside the walls we stop at its edge, for example at Valdibora.

Rovinj → Trieste →Trieste to Rovinj is a short drive across three countries: about 103 km from the Italian port to the Croatian coast of Istria. The road runs south past the Rabuiese/Škofije crossing into Slovenia, along the expressway past Koper, over a second border into Croatia, and then down the Istrian A9 motorway towards Kanfanar before turning west to Rovinj. A private transfer is the door-to-door option — straight from a cruise ship or Trieste Airport, with luggage handled for you, and with the freedom to stop in Koper or Piran on the way.
You cross two borders on this route, Italy–Slovenia and Slovenia–Croatia. All three countries are in the Schengen area, but police checks or temporary border controls may occur at either border. Every passenger should keep a passport or national ID card within reach; journey times can vary with traffic and checks.
We pick up from hotels and addresses in Trieste, from the Stazione Marittima cruise terminal and from Trieste Airport (TRS).
