Ljubljana to Venice in about two and three-quarter hours, without a single change. South-west through the Slovenian Karst, into Italy above Trieste and west along the A4 to the lagoon — to Piazzale Roma, a Mestre hotel, Marco Polo Airport or your ship.
Drive from Ljubljana to Venice in about 2h 45m. Private transfer priced on request per vehicle — from your Ljubljana hotel or the airport to the Venice drop-off that suits you: Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto, Mestre, Marco Polo Airport or the cruise berth.
Pickup from your hotel or address. The old town is a pedestrian zone, so for hotels inside it we meet you at the nearest point open to cars. Then south-west onto the A1 motorway.
The A1 runs past Postojna Cave, and the UNESCO-listed Škocjan Caves lie just off the A3 nearer the border — the natural place to break the journey while you are still in Slovenia.
A Schengen-internal crossing into Italy. Police checks or temporary border controls may occur, so keep a passport or national ID card at hand and allow some flexibility in journey time.
Down from the Karst on the link roads above Trieste, then west on the A4 across the Friuli and Veneto plain and round Mestre on the A57.
Over the Ponte della Libertà to Piazzale Roma, the last point a car can reach. The historic centre is pedestrian-only, so from Piazzale Roma you continue to your hotel on your own. Mestre hotels are drop-offs at the door, and we also drop off at Marco Polo Airport and the cruise berths.
Per vehicle, not per person. Every quote includes tolls, fuel, the cross-border route, assistance with loading and unloading luggage, and child seats available on request.

Ljubljana Airport (LJU) at Brnik is about 28 km north of the city. From the airport straight to Piazzale Roma is about 266 km and roughly 2h 55m, so there is no need to go into Ljubljana first — mention the airport pickup and your flight number in your request. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting.
Starting in Venice instead? Venice to Ljubljana covers pickups at Piazzale Roma, Mestre, Marco Polo Airport and the cruise berths.
Venice → Ljubljana →Ljubljana to Venice is about 245 km by road, almost all of it on motorway. The A1 leaves Ljubljana south-west through the Karst past Postojna, the A3 runs to the Italian border at Fernetiči/Fernetti, and above Trieste the link roads join the A4 for the long run west to Mestre and across the Ponte della Libertà to Piazzale Roma. Allow about two hours and three quarters without stops.
There is no direct train from Ljubljana to Venice. The rail journey changes at Villa Opicina and Trieste and takes around five and a half to six hours, or more. FlixBus runs direct coaches from Ljubljana bus station to several Venice stops, including Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma and Mestre station. A private transfer takes you from your Ljubljana door to the Venice point you actually need — Piazzale Roma, a Mestre hotel, the airport or your ship — with your luggage in the car the whole way and the option of a stop in the Karst.
Slovenia and Italy are both in the Schengen area, so this is an internal border. Checks can be in place when you cross, so every passenger should keep a passport or national ID card within reach; allow some flexibility if you have a ship or flight to catch.
Venice's historic centre has no road access, so a car can take you no further than Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, which is linked to Piazzale Roma by the People Mover in about three minutes. From there, reaching a hotel in the centre is your part of the journey. Hotels and addresses in Mestre, on the mainland, are drop-offs at the door; we also drop off at Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), about 15 km from Piazzale Roma, and at the cruise berths.
