Cortina d’Ampezzo, Lake Misurina and Rifugio Auronzo below the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, with pickup at Piazzale Roma and one driver who waits at every stop.
Your driver meets you for pickup at Piazzale Roma and drives north into the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2009. You stop in Cortina, at Lake Misurina and at Rifugio Auronzo, then return to Piazzale Roma the same day.
The route. From Piazzale Roma the road runs mainly on the A27 and then the SS51 (Alemagna) to Cortina d’Ampezzo: about 155 km, roughly 2h 05m. Lake Misurina is about 15 km further, and the panoramic road of about 6 km to Rifugio Auronzo starts just after Misurina, near Lake Antorno. The whole loop is about 360 km, roughly 5h 15m of driving.
The places. Cortina sits at 1,224 m and hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics and, with Milan, the 2026 Games. Lake Misurina lies at 1,754 m. Rifugio Auronzo, at 2,333 m at the end of the road, has a large car park and is the start of path 101 towards the north faces of the Tre Cime.
The pace. The driver waits at each stop, so the time you spend in Cortina, by the lake or walking from Rifugio Auronzo is yours to set. The Tre Cime road is open “generally end of May to end of October”, weather permitting, according to the local tourist consortium, so tell us your date and we plan the day around it.
