An hour up the Danube to Serbia's second city — baroque Novi Sad, with its café-lined Freedom Square and the great Petrovaradin Fortress on the cliff opposite, its upside-down clock watching the river. A private driver, all day, at your pace.
A private round-trip from Belgrade with your driver waiting while you explore — from €145 per vehicle. Fuel, tolls, and an English-speaking driver included; fortress tours, museum entry and lunch are extra.
Your driver collects you in Belgrade and heads north up the motorway along the Danube; the drive to Novi Sad takes about an hour (roughly 80–95 km). Door-to-door, it's the easiest way to combine the city and its fortress in a relaxed day.
Novi Sad is the capital of Vojvodina and Serbia's laid-back second city — baroque, leafy and Central-European in feel, once nicknamed the "Serbian Athens". Its heart is Freedom Square (Trg Slobode), framed by the neo-Gothic Name of Mary Church and the city hall, with the pedestrian lanes of Dunavska and Zmaj Jovina leading down toward the leafy Danube Park and the river quay.
Across the water rises the day's centrepiece: Petrovaradin Fortress, the huge baroque star-fort on its cliff, the "Gibraltar of the Danube". Walk the ramparts for the view back over the city, find the famous upside-down clock (big hand for the hours, small for the minutes), and, if you like, go down into the tunnels beneath. Because it's private, the day is yours — add the baroque wine town of Sremski Karlovci or the monasteries of Fruška Gora nearby — and your driver brings you back door-to-door.
