The Day

Prague to Český Krumlov, how the day works

The driver collects you in Prague and drives about 175 km south to Český Krumlov. You spend the time there as you like, and he brings you back to Prague the same day.

The route. Mostly road 3, about 175 km and roughly 2h 10m each way. The plain round trip is about 350 km and roughly 4h 20m of driving, all within Czechia.

The places. The Historic Centre of Český Krumlov has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. UNESCO describes a town on both banks of the Vltava, built below a castle founded in the 13th century.

The pace. Keep it to Český Krumlov, or add Holašovice, České Budějovice or Hluboká Castle on the way back. Each adds between about 10 and 25 minutes of driving.

The stops

  1. Český Krumlov

    about 2h 10m from Prague

The historic town and the Český Krumlov State Castle and Chateau, which the National Heritage Institute says preserves its layout, interiors and architectural details from the 14th to the 19th century.

  2. Holašovice (optional)

    adds about 25 minutes

A historical village and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998: twenty-three farmsteads around a rectangular village green with the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk.

  3. České Budějovice (optional)

    adds about 10 minutes

The city lies on the road back to Prague, so stopping here adds almost no distance.

  4. Hluboká Castle (optional)

    adds about 20 minutes

Hluboká state chateau, run by the National Heritage Institute, which offers tours and online tickets on its own site.
