The Day

Kotor to Lovćen, how the day works

A private round-trip from Kotor with your driver waiting at the top — from €150 per vehicle. Fuel, tolls, and an English-speaking driver included; entry fees and lunch are extra.

Your driver collects you in Kotor and starts the climb straight away: the Kotor serpentine, roughly 25 hairpin bends switchbacking up the mountain wall behind the bay. Each turn opens a wider view over Boka Kotorska — it's one of the great drives in the Balkans, and reason enough for the trip.

At the top the road enters Lovćen National Park. The centrepiece is the Njegoš Mausoleum on Jezerski Vrh (1,657 m) — the tomb of Montenegro's poet-ruler Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, reached by 461 steps through a tunnel, with a 360° platform on top looking out over the whole country. On the way up or down, most trips stop at the village of Njeguši, the birthplace of the Petrović dynasty and the home of Montenegro's famous pršut (smoked ham) and cheese.

Because it's private, the day is yours: linger at the viewpoints, take the Njeguši tasting slowly, or add the Kotor old town on the way back. Your driver waits throughout and brings you back door-to-door.

Day-Trip FAQ

Kotor to Lovćen questions

How long is the Kotor to Lovćen day trip?

+

About 1 hour each way up the mountain, and 5–6 hours for the full trip with time at the mausoleum, viewpoints and Njeguši. It's private, so you set the pace.

Is the serpentine road safe?

+

Yes — our drivers know the 25-bend Kotor serpentine well. It's steep and winding with spectacular drops, but a professional local driver makes it relaxed. Not one to attempt yourself in a hire car if you're nervous on mountain roads.

What does the price include?

+

The private vehicle round-trip with the driver waiting, fuel, tolls and an English-speaking driver. National park entry, the mausoleum ticket and any Njeguši tasting or lunch are paid separately on the day.

Can we add Kotor old town or Njeguši?

+

Yes — Njeguši is on the route and almost always included, and you can add time in Kotor's old town on the way back. Just tell your driver.
